About the Project:

We are dedicated to design and develop a social robot for English language learners in Hong Kong. Our social robot is equipped with AI-supported software to provide students language exposure and engaging students in storytelling and retelling, will enhance students’ English language development, especially on listening and speaking. Through engaging young learners in fun, meaningful and social interactions with the robot, English language learning motivation will be enhanced. 

To test the effectiveness of our social robot, we plan to pilot it in schools with at least 80 children. Our evidence-based tool will be available to kindergartens and primary schools as a resource for both formal and non-formal learning of the English language. Our robot can be utilized in English language classrooms or as a self-directed learning resource for out-of-classroom learning. Our educational handbook will provide guidelines and sample activities for the use of our robot in school settings.
